Sporting Success October/November 2012

Surf Life Saving

Isaac Smith (Year 8) attended a recent Surf Lifesaving New South Wales Talented Athlete Training Program. Forty five athletes from the state were selected to attend and only five athletes were chosen from the Northern Beaches. The athletes underwent an intensive program of training, testing, diet, psychology and information sessions. We look forward to Isaac achieving his goals in the surf this season.

Sailing - State Championships

James Pinnington (Year 5) recently competed in the first round of the Manly Junior State Sailing Championships at Lake Illawarra. James was competing in the novice division for children skippering for their first season. Janes came 2nd in a very close first race and 6th in the second race in very challenging conditions. The next round is in November and we wish James the very best of luck for the challenge.

Soccer - All Stars Team

Gianni Stensness (Year 8) spent the recently represented the U13 NSW Metro State Football team which competed at Coffs Harbour. Gianni's team won the tournament and he was then selected into the All Stars team (an Australian U13 team) by a panel of senior football officials, all with Socceroos experience. This is an outstanding achievement and we will continue to follow Gianni's progress closely as he moves in to the older age groups.

Australian Hockey Championships

Jack Pickering (Year 8) competed at the Australian Hockey Championships in Nowra, in the U13 Boys section. Jack is a member of the NSW State team which were undefeated and the champion team of the week. Jack was the top goal scorer in the tournament, an outstanding achievement.

Isabella Lorenzo (Year 3) was part of the Northern Beaches Tennis Academy team that came in first place in the Saturday morning green ball competition. Isabella is especially proud as she was the youngest player in all the eight teams that competed. Her other team members were Year 6 boys who go to  schools in Mona Vale and Cromer.

Sienna Dinn (Year 2) competed in the Epping Invitational Level 1 State Stream gymnastics competition on Sunday 16 September. Sienna achieved second place grading on floor, beam and vault, and a third place grading on bars, giving her a second place grading overall. Well done Sienna!

Lucy Rees (Kindergarten) was presented with her trophy at the conclusion of the Minkey Hockey season last weekend. This is Lucy's first season and her team won the grand final, having won nearly every match played for Manly Warringah Hockey Club. Congratulations Lucy!
